What is Hysterectomy?

Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, or womb. One or both of the Fallopian tubes and ovaries may be removed as well. Diseases that attack the tissues of these organs often make it necessary to remove them. Tumors, either benign or malignant, sometimes grow in the uterus, making hysterectomy necessary.
