Do chimpanzees have language?

how smart is a chimpanzee

The chimpanzee, the smartest of all primates apart from man, is smarter than scientists had thought. Trained chimpanzees have shown that they can be taught to use a form of mute language to "talk" to their instructors.

First, chimpanzees learn symbols by a series of simple words.

These symbols are figures marked on tokens. For example, chimpanzees learn that if they give their trainer a token marked with a circle, they will receive a banana in return.

Other figures represent other words. Within a short time, chimpanzees were building their own "phrases," placing a group of tokens in a certain order. But what did the chimpanzees say? Most were simple things, like, "I want a banana now.

These chimpanzees even learned to operate a vending machine. They were taught that certain tokens, when placed in the slot of the machine, would give them a piece of fruit. The chimpanzees soon began to accumulate their tokens, and they even fought each other for the "coins"!

Where did the first drive-in open?

When did the first drive-in cinema open?

Who invented the drive-in theater?

In 1932, a man named Richard Hollingshead placed a screen in front of his garage in Riverton, New Jersey, and sat in his car to watch a movie.

He did so so that he could become the first person in a car to watch a movie, and thus obtain a patent on the idea, which would prevent anyone else from using it.

Hollingshead created the first drive-in shortly after in a vacant lot in Camden, New Jersey. The lot had room for 400 vehicles. But then the government declared that Hollingshead did not have the patent on the idea, and many other people started creating their own drive-in movie theaters.

In 1948, there were 820 movie theaters in the United States, and in its heyday during the 1960s, the total had increased to more than 4,000.

What people used the first lamps?

What people used the first lamps?

The first lamps we know of were used by primitive man, perhaps before 50,000 BC.

These lamps consisted of a stone in the form of a container filled with animal fat or vegetable oil, whether olive or dried fruit. A piece of moss was inserted in the oil, then it would light up. The moss served as a wick, absorbing the oil and burning slowly to give light.

After people learned to make clay objects, clay lamps were made instead of stone ones. Clay lamps have been found that probably date back to 4000 BC.

Magellan was the first person to circumnavigate the world?

Magellan was the first person to circumnavigate the world? The answer could be yes... and it could be no. It all depends on what is meant by "circumnavigate the Earth." Magellan was, yes, the first person to circumnavigate the globe - but not in one trip.

Fernando de Magallanes was a Portuguese nobleman. He had sailed to the East Indies with the Portuguese navy, then returned to Europe. After a battle in Morocco, he was accused of trading with the enemy, so he had to leave Portugal and go to Spain. There, the king became interested in his plan to sail around South America and find a route to the east through the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Magellan left Spain in 1519 with five ships. He crossed the southern tip of South America through the pass that in his honor is called the Strait of Magellan. Then sailed across the ocean he named Pacific, due to its gentle winds. It took him 98 days to cross the ocean to the island of Guam, and during that time his men became so hungry that they had to eat sawdust.

In 1521, Magellan arrived in the Philippines and was killed in a fight with the natives. But with this, he achieved the feat of sailing around the world, since he had previously reached the East Indies by sailing through South Africa. Magellan actually sailed the world, but on two separate voyages!

Some of Magellan's men left the Philippines, the Victoria, arrived in Europe in 1522 with just 18 men. These men - with their leader, Juan Sebastian Elcano - were the first navigators in history to circle the world in a single journey.
