What is a steinbok?

Steinbok is the common name for any small antelope of the genus Raphicerus, especially R. campestris, found abundantly in open or thinly wooded and hilly places from the Cape of Good Hope to the Zambezi River in Africa. The animal stands about 24 inches tall at the shoulder, is long-necked, has short ringed horns which curve forward, and is exceedingly swift and active. The name is also applied to the European ibex.
