Are you supertitious? A lot of people believe that the number 13 is unlucky. So when buildings are constructed, often there will not be a floor numbered 13 - the numbering will skip 12 to 14. Even if the owner and the architect of the building aren't superstitious, they may omit the 13th floor to play safe. They won't want potential tenants to avoid the floor. (There is a similar supertition in China - but for any floor with a 4 in it.) So, the next time you're riding in a elevator, look very carefully at the buttons for the floors. It's possible that you won't see a 13!
