Giulio Romano, (1492-1546) was an Italian painter, architect and leader of the Roman
school after Raphael. A favorite pupil, he was entrusted with the
execution of frescoes in the Vatican. When Raphael died he left his
brushes and Instruments to Giulio, who completed several of the master's
unfinished paintings including
The Coronation of the Virgin, Later
Giulio went to Mantua, which he rebuilt extensively, restoring the
cathedral. Designed the Church of San Benedetto. His chief paintings are
Stoning of Stephen, in S. Stefano, Genoa;
Adoration of the Kings,
Louvre;
Holy Family, Dresden.
