The Italian greyhound is a slender short-coated toy dog that looks like a small greyhound. The Italian greyhound stands about 10 inches (25 cm) tall at the shoulder and weighs about 9 pounds (4 kg). It has a slim body, which tapers to a very narrow waist, and a long narrow head with small, slightly folded ears. Its glossy coat may be fawn, red, blue, gray, mouse, cream, or white. Italian greyhounds walk with a high-stepping gait, carrying their long thin tail low. Italian greyhounds are affectionate dogs, and they have been raised as household pets for more than 2,000 years.
