English mathematician Isaac Newton combined his three laws of motion to come up with the law of universal gravitation. This law states that the gravitational force between any two objects depends on the mass of each object and the distance between them. The greater each object's mass, the stronger the pull, but the greater the distance between them, the weaker the pull. This relationship, known as an inverse square law, states that gravitational force is equal to a gravitational constant times the mass of each object, divided by the square of the distance separating them.
