Junco, the snow bird

The slate-colored junco, or snow bird, is a winter bird. Liking cold weather, it takes to the mountains in the summer. Its song is like that of a sleigh bell. The junco is a member of the finch family.
The junco is a small, gray-vested bird with a white apron and a flesh-colored bill. It has white feathers on the edge of its tail.
The junco eats large quantities of weed seed, such as ragweed, steeplebush, and goosefoot. In the winter, along with the sparrows, it often visits the logging camps, becoming tame enough to approach them for food.
