The guanaco, or huanaco (
Lama guanicoe), is a wild animal of South America of the camel family, found in large herds in the mountains. About four feet tall, resembling a doe, the guanaco is supposed to be the ancestor of the domesticated alpaca breed of llama. The natives use the flesh for food, the skin for clothing.
