The impala is an antelope. All antelopes can leap over the ground very fast. The impala is one of the fastest. It is also one of the most graceful.
Hunters say that no animal can get into motion more quickly than the impala. A hunter may come upon a herd of impalas quietly eating grass. The next instant they will move off in great leaps and bounds.
Impalas are found wild only in Africa, but there are some in zoos in other lands. They are not easy to catch, for they can leap over almost any net set for them. After they are caught, impalas are hard to ship, for their legs are so slender that they break easily. And they are hard to keep penned up in a zoo, for they can jump almost any fence.
