The Fates

   In Greek and Roman mythology, the Fates were the three sisters who controlled man's destiny. They were the daughters of Jupiter. Clotho spun the thread of life, Lachesis assigned to man his destiny, and Atropos cut the thread of life with her fatal scissors. In Scandinavian mythology the goddesses of fate, usually three, were called Norns.
