What is Plaster of Paris?
When gypsum is heated to 120° C, it loses water and becomes the white powder, plaster of Paris (CaSO

) 2H
2
O. When water is added to the powder, it hardens into a solid mass; so plaster of Paris is used for plasters, models, and molds.
