How is a tsunami formed?
Tsunami is a word that comes from the
Japanese tsu (port) and
nami (big wave): A kind of waves that destroyed the fishing villages without their passage being felt at sea. Incorporated into the international lexicon since 1967, tsunami is used to designate a violent agitation of the waters of the sea as a result of a shaking of the bottom, in 90% of cases caused by an underwater earthquake, which can spread to the coasts forming trains of marine waves that can reach heights, speeds or distances such as to cause considerable material and human damage.
