Jute is one of the most useful fibers. It comes from one of two common species of jute plants. Jute plants are tall shrubs, from eight to fifteen feet high, and may be grown in any hot, humid climate. Most of the jute fiber comes from India.
The fiber which lies between the outer bark and the central wood of the jute plants is widely used. It is cheaply and simply cultivated, easily spun and dyed. Jute is used for burlap, webbing, twine, backing yarn for carpets and linoleum, oakum, paper, and heavy ropes.
